Simple and Delicious Chili
This recipe is the best middle ground I've found between the quick and easy chili recipes, and the complicated but more tasty recipes.
Servings: 5 bowls
Equipment
- 1 Medium pot
- 1 cooking sheet
Ingredients
Cooking oil
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Meats
- 1 lb ground beef
- 0.25 lb bacon
Veggies
- 1 medium onion yellow or white
Spices
- 2.5 tbsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp cumin
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tbsp sugar granulated
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
Cans and cartons
- 15 oz kidney beans
- 15 oz diced tomatoes and green chiles
- 15 oz tomato sauce
- 1 cups broth beef preferred, chicken works too
Instructions
Prep
- Combine all spices together
- Partially cook the bacon (425℉ for about 10 minutes) and then cut into small squares
- While the bacon is cooking, dice your onion and set aside
Cooking
- Add olive oil to the pot and set the heat to medium
- Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring every few minutes
- Add the ground beef and break into small chunks with a spoon while cooking until the beef is browned
- Dump the spices and the bacon into the pot, mixing thoroughly
- Add all of the canned and cartoned goods (beans, tomatoes and green chiles, tomato sauce, broth), mixing well
- Reduce heat to low (or medium low) and allow it to simmer uncovered until it reaches the desired thickness (roughly an hour)
